Overview

TEAM PLACEMENT

Dance Athletics Omaha aims to build teams of dancers with similar skill sets, taking into account age and experience. The primary goal is to meet each dancer where they are in their personal journey while ensuring that team placements enhance their success both as individuals and teammates. Dancers are eligible for teams based on their birth year following the age grid set forth by our membership organization, The US All Star Federation (USASF).

Tryouts

Tryouts will be held on Tuesday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 27th. Attendance at both tryout days is required for consideration for team placement. All team placements will be announced on Friday, May 29th followed by a Season Kickoff and Parent Meeting.

If you are unable to attend tryouts, please email Caroline Unger at cunger@danceathletics.net. She will be happy to help you schedule an alternate audition date.

Teams Offered

Tiny Pom Team

(Tiny Birth Years: 2019-2022)

Our Tiny Pom Team is the perfect introduction to team dance for our youngest athletes who are ready to shine in a fun, structured, and encouraging environment. This team focuses on building strong foundations in both dance and acro while introducing teamwork, listening skills, and performance confidence. Dancers will take weekly ballet, technique, and acro classes, while also learning age-appropriate pom technique and choreography, setting them up for success as they take the next step in their dance journey, all while having fun and growing their love for dance.

Tiny Pom Team members will meet twice a week on weekdays. They will have a 2.25-hour weekly commitment in June and July. Beginning in August, dancers will start rehearsing their team routine during weekly practices, with the schedule increasing to a 3-hour weekly commitment through December. Throughout the season, dancers will prepare for three exciting local performance opportunities: our Blue Debut Showcase, the UNO All Star Competition, and the UDA Spirit of the Midwest Competition. This program is ideal for dancers who are ready to grow, build confidence, and experience the joy of performing as part of a team in a positive and supportive setting.

Mini & Youth Half Year Prep Pom Teams

(Mini Birth Years: 2016-2021) (Youth Birth Years: 2013-2018)

Our Mini & Youth Half Year Prep Pom Teams are designed for dancers who are ready to build on their foundational skills and step into a more structured team experience. As a prep team, this program bridges the gap between recreational classes and full-year competitive teams, giving dancers the opportunity to grow in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Throughout the summer (June-July), dancers will have a 3-hour weekly commitment, attending weekday technique, ballet, and acro classes focused on building strong foundations. Beginning in August, dancers will continue their weekday classes and will add a Sunday rehearsal where they will practice their one team pom routine, increasing the schedule to a 4-hour weekly commitment through December. Throughout the season, dancers will prepare for three exciting performance opportunities: our Blue Debut Showcase, the UNO All Star Competition, and the UDA Spirit of the Midwest Competition. This is the perfect next step for dancers who are ready to challenge themselves, grow their skills, and prepare for future competitive team opportunities while continuing to foster a love for dance.

Mini, Youth, & Junior Hip Hop Teams

(Mini Birth Years: 2016-2021) (Youth Birth Years: 2013-2018) (Junior Birth Years: 2010-2016)

Our Hip Hop Teams are an exciting and high-energy program designed for dancers who want to build confidence, style, and performance quality in a fun and supportive environment. This team can be added on to a Half Year Prep or Full Year Team, or joined as a stand-alone option for dancers who are specifically interested in hip hop. Dancers will focus on developing musicality, strength, coordination, hip hop tricks, and performance presence while learning foundational and age-appropriate hip hop technique.

Throughout the season, dancers will train in weekly hip hop combo classes, acro classes, and rehearsals. They will learn choreography that emphasizes sharp execution, creativity, and confidence. Dancers will have the opportunity to perform a hip hop routine at select performances and competitions.

Hip Hop Team members will take hip hop combo and acro classes in June and July. Beginning in August, dancers will continue their class requirements and start rehearsing their team routine during weekly practices on Sundays. The Hip Hop Team is a great option for dancers who are looking to diversify their training, try something new, or continue growing as a well-rounded performer in a positive and energetic setting.

Mini, Youth, and Junior Full Year Pom & Contemporary/Lyrical Teams

(Mini Birth Years: 2016-2021) (Youth Birth Years: 2013-2018) (Junior Birth Years: 2010-2016)

Our Full Year Pom & Lyrical/Contemporary Teams are designed for dedicated dancers who are ready to fully commit to their competitive dance journey and continue progressing at a higher level. This program emphasizes strong technical training, performance quality, and artistry in a focused, positive, and team-centered environment. Team members are expected to be committed to their growth and to their team, consistently showing up ready to work, learn, and improve.

Dancers will be placed in two routines: pom and lyrical/contemporary. Weekly training in June-July and September-April will include 5.5 hours of weekday classes such as ballet, technique, combo, conditioning, and acro. Additional Sunday rehearsals will begin in August to prepare for performances and competitions. Dancers will also have the opportunity to add a solo to their full year experience for additional performance and skill development.

Throughout the season, dancers will have exciting performance opportunities including our Blue Debut Showcase, two local competitions, and two travel regional competitions, with a possible opportunity to attend Summit Nationals in Florida. This program is ideal for dancers who are motivated to challenge themselves, refine their technique, and develop as well-rounded performers. It provides the opportunity to build a deep love for the competitive dance experience while continuing to reach for the next level in a fun, team-centered environment.
